As with many successful automotive repair shops, Gary’s family business has a long, established history with an amazing legacy. His father purchased the business in 1985; a company that was first founded in 1917. Talk about legacy! Gary joined the family business in 1989, initially working in the shop, and then moving into the service advisor position in 2004. Gary eventually took control of the company in 2006.
In the 1990s Gary and his team began to transition from radiator repair, heating, and cooling to a full-service automotive repair shop model. In 2004 the business name was changed to Toledo Auto Care.
With a desire to expand, Gary and his team grew the company from one location to three by 2019: a remarkable achievement. Under Gary’s leadership, along with setting lofty goals, he put together a plan to increase sales and profits at all three locations. His company had its best year in 2023, with sales hitting nearly four million dollars. One of his company’s strengths is employee tenure, averaging over five years. Additionally, Gary and his team focus on delivering an amazing customer experience.
Gary is a firm believer that small businesses should give back to the community, and to the industry. Gary has been a mentor and has helped many colleagues with their businesses and careers, guiding them and helping them reach their level of success. He also coached his children’s soccer team, baseball, and softball teams. Gary’s company supports their local schools, as well as the Lucas County Children’s Service. He served as a board member at his Church for seven years and also headed the largest BNI group in Northwest Ohio twice, growing it each time by 20%.
Training and continuous improvement are also important to Gary’s personal development and business growth. Gary is an AMAM-accredited automotive manager, holds an ASE Service Advisor Certification, and has two years of college experience. He is also part of Elite Pro Service, and his company is a Tech Net facility. Numerous articles were written about Gary and his company’s achievements in Ratchet and Wrench Magazine.
Gary enjoys woodworking, basketball, cycling, golf, hiking, football, and mostly all other outdoor activities. Gary resides in Toledo Ohio, is married, has two children, and one granddaughter. Oh yes, we can’t forget Bailey! The family mini-goldendoodle!
